When a game refuses to launch, it's tempting to start changing random settings, reinstalling everything, or downloading fixes from questionable websites.
I'd rather start with the basic stuff.
Things like checking game files, restarting Steam, looking for maintenance announcements, and making sure the game itself has finished updating.
What other basic checks should people try before assuming something is seriously wrong?

Check whether the servers are under maintenance too. Sometimes people assume their entire game is broken when it's actually a server-side issue lol.
Restart Steam completely, not just minimize it and open it again.
Also check GPU drivers and Windows updates if the problem continues. Don't immediately download random DLL files from websites.
Good point. And remove unsupported mods or overlays temporarily when diagnosing a launch issue.
